Texas Arabian Stakes Races
Results! 2nd races in the Arabian Triple Crown Series, 2008 Texas Yellow Rose and Texas Six Shooter
Sam Houston Race Park, March 29, 2008-- The running of the 2008 Texas Yellow Rose and Texas Six Shooter proved that sometimes all bets are off when a well bred field enters the starting gates. Some of the very finest fillies and colts in the U.S.A. vied for the wins in both Grade 2 stakes at Sam Houston Race Park March 29th. These prestigious races are run as the 2nd leg in the U.S. Arabian Triple Crown series.
Over $184,000 was wagered on the Texas Yellow Rose for 4 year old fillies. And over $155,000 was wagered on the Texas Six Shooter for 4 year old colts and geldings- a very respectable figure for the 10th and last race of the evening which generally does not produce extraordinary handle.
The favorites in the Yellow Rose included 2007 Darley Nominee Abra Caadabra and 2007 Darley Winner Dixie Dance, and favorites in the Six Shooter were 2 time stakes winner/4 time stakes placed Cool Sand Luke coupled with stablemate Throttle Up. However it was DC Willful Spirit going off at a almost 7/1 odds who drew clear to win the Texas Yellow Rose. In a similar surprise for the bettors, it was Remarkable Man at a little more than 8/1 odds who won the Texas Six Shooter in a driving finish.

Why We Seek Participants from Inside Texas and Out-of-State
Texas Stakes Race Structure
TABA and Texas Arabian racing is completely entertwined in the national picture attracting owners, trainers, racehorses and racing sponsors from across the country. It has been imperative to build our Texas stakes program in order to accommodate the very best horses, period. Our program was not built by and thrives not to satisfy one horse, trainer, owner, or board member. This means that there is full communication with the Arabian Jockey Club and other state racing organizations in order to mesh the Texas Stakes race schedule with Arabian stakes races in other states.
Ideally this works best if all state organizations communicate on scheduling. Texas has been a leader in understanding and working within the framework of this concept. The perfect scenario is for an owner to have the opportunity to run his horse in every eligible race in the country.
This concept seems simple, but it is often difficult to get all racing participants to understand it. Many within individual state racing programs become focused merely on their own present day interests. It's not uncommon to hear patriotic murmurs among home state horsemen warning about "letting those outside horses come in and steal our money." Instead, Texas Arabian Breeders Association strives to focus on the big picture that benefits everyone... getting the best horses to the tracks instead of formulating rules to fit only particular horses who reside in a home state.
One exception that should be mentioned is the offering of our Accredited Texas Bred stakes races. Purses are not subsidized by external sponsors. Funding for these races is provided by the Accredited Texas Bred Program. These races, by definition, are limited to horses that participate in the ATB program- a breeder incentive program originated by the Texas Racing Act to bolster the horse industry within the state. It is a special opportunity set aside to reward racehorse owners who are participants in this particular program. It should be noted that benefits of the ATB are available to horses bred outside the state of Texas, so the program includes owners nationwide.
Do your part to support a healthy Arabian racing industry, and don't miss a chance to run your horses in Texas!
