Lacy Crazy Vaz
winner of the $7,500 maiden race at Retama Park Aug. 29th

Lacy Crazy Vaz is owned and bred by Sam Vasquez of Texas. Sam was not only owner of the year in Texas last year, but awarded Darley Champion Breeder of the year for the entire nation.

Lacy Crazy Vaz is a 3 year old bay colt by Chndaka, out of Lacy-Jay by Burning Sand. Chndaka, a French imported sire owned by Shadwell Stud of the United Kingdom stands at Mandolynn Hill Farm in Texas. Lacy Crazy Vaz is trained by Juan Ascencio, and Isaac Chapa was in the stirrups as they walked away with the win by 4 1/2 lengths.

My Zoom Zell was second, owned by Ken and Nancy Blewett of Texas, and third was Tri Spirit, owned by Betty and Joe Gillis of Mississippi.

Horse number 1 is Profilin, coming out of gate number 4. This 4 year old filly is by Doran SBFAR out of Silky Way by Alongtheway and was bred in Florida by the astute Dianne Waldron, a TABA member and breeder of many international champions. Profilin finished 5th in her last out, but none of the other horses in this field have finished better than 5th in their last tries. This filly broke her maiden in Delaware where she has run 6 of her 7 lifetime starts. Her last start was at Retama Park in February. She's owned by Carlos Moore, trained by Juan Ascencio who won the first Arabian race at this meet last Saturday. (see above).

Horse number 1A is Alanillusion, in post position 6, was bred in Florida by Guy Neivens. She's a 4 year old bay filly by Ala Croixnoire out of Sweet Illusionn by Minos GASB. She has won 1 race, started 4 times in her life, all in Delaware and all in 2008. Alanillusion couple with Horse number 1 is also owned by Carlos Moore and trained by Juan Ascencio.

Horse number 2 is Burning Fever, in pp 1. Here is 5 year old bay horse by leading sire in the USA, Burning Sand, and out of the Mellon daughter Melleene. He was bred in Virginia by James Morris and is owned by Sam Vasquez, winning owner of the Arabian race last Saturday. Burning Fever has 3 wins of 10 starts, and 2 of those wins in his 7 starts this year, both at Retama Park last winter. He's been running in Colorado this summer with no wins but twice in stakes company that was a little over his head. Trained by Elizabeth Brand, Darley Champion Trainer of the Year 2008. Watch this one, he's got speed but is a closer.

Horse number 3 is The Tunisian Prince, in pp 2 is a 5 year old bay horse by Okba out of Little Princcess by Monarch AH. He was bred in Texas by Dan and Everetta Woods who also are his owners. Justice Rochabrun is his trainer. The Tunisian Prince is a trooper with 26 starts to his credit, 2 wins, 1 second place finish and 4 fourths lifetime. He's been running with Stakes company as well in Colorado this summer. On the 29th he turned in a nice 3/8 work in 40 seconds flat at Retama.

Horse number 4 is Ormond, from post position 3, and he is leased and trained by Edelmiro Carrizales. He's an 8 year old horse by Flaming Streak out of Nicole Brent by Sams Fix, bred in Florida by Godolphin Racing. Ormond has run 37 races, with 8 starts, 8 seconds, and 7 thirds, and has not run since last October at Lone Star Park. His last win came to him in November of 2007. Nice to see you back, Ormond!

Horse number 5 Topule, coming from post position 5, is by Virgule Al Maury and out of Potoria by Zloty Potok. He was bred in Florida by Darley Stud Management LLC and is a 4 year old gelding. From 15 starts he has 2 wins, 3 seconds, 3 thirds, but the best he's done this year is a third out of 4 tries. His most recent effort was in February at Retama Park in the Texas Six Shooter stake where he ran sixth. He is owned by Mandolynn Hill Farm in Texas and trained by Billy Lewis. Welcome back to Texas, Billy!

Horse number 6 SE Bunker Buster, from pp 7, is another long time runner with 37 starts, 7 wins, 12 seconds and 4 fourths. He's won twice this year, one a win of the Cobra Challenge Stake this summer at Arapahoe Park. With good speed and experience he could be hard to beat in this field. He's owned by Ray Teutsch and trained by Elizabeth Brand. He's a 6 year old horse by Burning Sand out of Soaring Alee by Anchor Hill Aly, bred in Colorado by Jane Teutsch. The Teutchs own Arabian farms both in Colorado and Texas, and Ray serves on the board of directors for TABA.

Horse number 7 is Buddy Of Mine, post position 8, comes into this race with the most races of any other entry, he has run 44 times producing 15 firsts, 12 seconds, and 6 thirds. He has only had one out in 2009, in California at Los Alamitos where he ran 5th. Buddy Of Mine is a 9 year old horse owned by Mike Economopolous of Arkansas, trained by Billy Lewis, and was bred in Florida by Godolphin Racing. He's by Virgule Al Maury out of Alite Shock by Wiking. Buddy Of Mine boasts the highest lifetime earnings of any horse in this race, $103,283, and if he feels "on" is certainly to give the field a run for their money.

Horse number 8 is Finales Majic SWA, from post position 9, is owned by Dr. James Wetzel of Wyoming who has run horses for well over a decade in Texas. Finales Majic SWA is trained by Jerry Partin, and is a 5 year old chestnut horse by K A Czubuthan out of Merlins Finale by J B Merlin. This horse has run 14 races lifetime, with one win, 2 seconds and 3 thirds, and has been running at Arapahoe Park this summer earning a 3rd in the Colorado Breeders Cup.
