Don't be shy. For instance, if a stallion breeding is at $450, with the next bid to be $500, say you would actually be willing to pay up to $850 for this breeding. You can go ahead and just manually bid... and enter $500. Or, you can enter the maximum you would pay... $850. The system however only takes your bid in at $500, the amount needed to put you in the lead. When the next bidder tries to outbid you, they only see that you have bid $500. They do not see your maximum. So they will likely bid to the next increment*, $550. Automatically, the system will bid on your behalf, and put in a bid for you at the next increment. Your bid will now be $600. The system will bid for you to keep you in the lead, up to your maximum. The way this helps you is twofold... number one, the system watches the activity, so you do not miss the chance of winning your selection. Number two, when you (the system for you) continually outbid others on an item, chances become great that your competitors will give up... not knowing what is your maximum and not willing to get in a bidding war. If they drop out sooner, then you have the chance to win your item at a much lower price than your actual maximum. *Bid increments are $50 when you are bidding on a selection with a price from $500 to $5000. When the amount is equal or greater than $5000, the bidding increment is $100.
